MO OGG – BARD OF COLEBY – Various Artists
Maurice Charles Ogg (Mo) was born on the 29th of May 1946. He grew up in Winteringham and Coleby and worked as a joiner in the rural communities around Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. He died on the 6th of December 1980 but despite his short life, left an indelible mark on the British folk scene.
To put together the collection of songs and tunes on this album, members of community organisation Folk ‘Round ‘Ere drew Mo’s recordings, along with the memories of those who knew him and sang alongside him. Each of the singers and musicians were given a song or a tune and asked to perform it how they wanted it to sound. Their approach to the track is personal and their tribute to Mo’s contribution to the folk scene. Some of the songs have been prefaced with Mo’s original introductions from the archive recordings.
This album is for those singers who rarely make it to the professional stage but constantly keep folk music alive in towns, villages, pubs and clubs across the UK.
This album is presented as a digipak with a 16 page booklet describing each of the songs and the artists who perform them.
