RecoveryIndie event Friday 26th Sept @CafeIndie

No Comments event

Over 200 balloons, bearing messages of hope and inspiration will launched into the Scunthorpe skies to celebrate Recovery Month 2014 at a town centre event on Friday 26 September.

#RecoveryIndie is being held at Café Indiependent on Scunthorpe High Street by local recovery cafe STRIVE, to promote recovery from illicit drugs and alcohol, break down barriers and reach out to those who are still suffering with addiction. STRIVE is led by people in recovery with support from The Junction and Community Alcohol Service, which is run by the Alcohol & Drug Service (ADS) in partnership with the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH).

The event has been organised by a group of people in recovery and staff members.

Practice Lead Laura Jarvis said “Recovery Month takes place annually in September, and is now in its 25th year across the world.

“It’s a time when people who have reclaimed their lives can really promote and celebrate the benefits of what being in recovery actually means.

“Our event aims to bring together local communities, families, carers and friends to raise awareness of the advice and support that is available locally, demonstrate there is a life after drugs, and motivate people to take action to help themselves and others.”

The event starts at 10am, and is designed to be family friendly and fun. It will include activities and attractions such as activities, crafts, live music, as well as guest speakers and information from local services. There will also be an opportunity to contribute messages and hand prints in a bid to create a massive recovery tree artwork on the day, which will round off with the big balloon launch at 4pm.
